Singer, Songwriter, Artist and Designer. Started singing at the tender age of 3 under the tutelage of her parents who toured with a
gospel group in the late 1940's. The family would spend hours singing 3 part harmony during long road trips. She grew up singing
in church. At the age of 8 her family moved to rural West Africa. For years following this, she listened to local West African music
and her parent's extensive jazz and gospel collections. This planted the seeds for her love of jazz classics as well as World Beat
music. Her style influences, in addition to her mother, were Billy Holiday, Lena Horne, Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan, Roberta
Flack and Mahalia Jackson. Carla has been singing professionally since 1993. Featured artist in Jazz Now Magazine June 1994.
Aired her first original single on local radio in Sacramento, CA, "Skinny Women Can't Sing The Blues" also in 1994. Since then she
has continued to perform in local venues both in Colorado and California and to write songs. A flexible singer who can render a
smooth jazz ballad as easily as a funky dance tune or a heart felt gospel song. Has produced two collections of originals and is
currently working on a gospel collection. Fund raiser and Praise & Worship leader for The Gleaning Field Foundation for the
